Overview
A child born in Brazil has, in general, the right to Brazilian nationality, regardless of the nationality of the parents, as Brazil adopts the principle of jus soli (right to soil). This means that any child born in Brazilian territory can be recognized as a Brazilian citizen from birth. To formalize this right, a declaration provided by the hospital is necessary, and the birth must be registered at a local civil registry office, which can be done shortly after the birth. After registration, the child receives a Brazilian birth certificate, which confirms their citizenship and legal protections full access to the rights and protections afforded to all Brazilian citizens.
