Overview
ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) will be a requirement for tourists from countries that currently do not need a visa to enter Europe, such as Brazil. This is a prior electronic authorization that will allow stays of up to 90 days in around 30 European countries. Initially scheduled for 2024, the launch of ETIAS was postponed and is now scheduled for the last quarter of 2026. The value of the authorization also underwent changes: the cost, which would previously be 7 euros, rose to 20 euros (around R$130 in July 2025). The increase aims to cover operating expenses, compensate for inflation and align the program with similar systems, such as the United States' ESTA and the United Kingdom's ETA. Some categories of travelers will be exempt from the fee, such as those under 18 and over 70. In most cases, approval will be quick, and the authorization will be valid for up to three years or until the passport expires.
