In Brazil, deportation is an administrative measure applied to people who are in an irregular migratory situation, such as entering the country illegally, staying beyond the visa period or canceling their residence permit. The process is conducted by the Federal Police and must respect the principles of due legal process, including the right to full defense and appeal with suspensive effect. Before deportation takes place, the person is formally notified and given the opportunity to regularize their immigration status or leave the country voluntarily within a specified period, generally 60 days.
