Overview
Pix, a Brazilian instant payment system, is expanding internationally through partnerships between fintechs and retailers that serve Brazilian tourists. In France (for example, in Paris in certain locations aimed at the Brazilian public, some perfumeries), in Portugal (via Unicre/Braza Bank in certain supermarkets and stores), in the USA (with Verifone and PagBrasil in points in Florida and New York), in addition to Argentina (such as in Puerto Iguazú and Buenos Aires), Paraguay, Uruguay and Miami, Brazilian tourists can pay with Pix in reais via QR Code. The amount is automatically converted to the local currency, including fees, normally around 2–3% and IOF, and the merchant receives it in their own currency.
