Overview

In Brazil, the National Migration Registry (RNM) is the registry of immigrants, regardless of their residence status, whether temporary or permanent. The National Migration Registration Card (CRNM), which replaced the National Foreigner Registry (RNE), is the physical document that serves as an identity card for all non-nationals residing in Brazil. This document proves residence and is used for identification purposes. The card provides an identification number, indicates the type of residence permit, the expiration date of the physical document and offers uniform identification for all foreign residents. However, it does not indicate the end date of the residence permit, which is specified by legislation and informed by immigration authorities.
