The joint family visa for spouses and partners in a recognized stable union of Irish citizens allows the foreign partner to live legally in Ireland.

Overview

The joint family visa for spouses and partners in a recognized stable union of Irish citizens allows the foreign partner to live legally in Ireland. The couple must be in Ireland and prove their marriage or stable union, in addition to meeting requirements such as financial conditions and demonstrating that the relationship was not established for the sole purpose of obtaining a visa and the couple must have met in person, at least a few times. The application is made through the Irish immigration system, and processing can take a few months. Upon arrival in Ireland, the spouse or partner must register with the immigration authorities within 90 days. Once granted, the Stamp 4 residence permit is generally valid for an initial period of 3 years, with the possibility of renewal. During this time, the partner has the right to live and work in Ireland.
