Overview
The K-1 visa is intended for foreign fiancés of United States citizens. To be potentially qualifying, the couple must prove that they have met in person within the last two years, are legally free to marry, and that the wedding will take place in the U.S. within 90 days of the fiance's arrival. The validity period of the K-1 visa cannot be extended beyond 90 days, counting from arrival in the USA. If the fiancé(e) is unable to utilize the visa, arriving in the US and getting married, before its expiration, due to circumstances beyond their control, it is necessary to contact the consulate to discuss available options.
