Mato Grosso state, one of Brazil's most biodiverse states, is known for its unique rivers and vast wetlands, offering an exceptional experience for fishing enthusiasts.

Overview

Mato Grosso state, one of Brazil's most biodiverse states, is known for its unique rivers and vast wetlands, offering an exceptional experience for fishing enthusiasts. With diverse fish species, including native ones, it is an attractive destination for those seeking adventure in nature. Foreign tourists wishing to fish in Mato Grosso no longer need a CPF to obtain the mandatory fishing licence. As of January 20, 2024, the State Environment Secretariat (Sema-MT) updated its system, requiring only a passport number and date of birth for foreigners to register. Brazilian citizens will also benefit from this change, as they no longer need to register on the SIGA Portal and only need to provide their CPF and date of birth to access the service. The fishing licence remains mandatory for individuals over 18 years old, with certain exemptions for seniors and retirees. The licence lasts for one year, but for those over 60 or retired, it is free and valid for five years. Fishing is allowed after the end of the annual piracema closed season, but restrictions such as the "Zero Transport" law still apply to certain fish species. Legal guidance can help clarify the applicable rules, the risks involved, and the next step that best fits your situation.
