The Portuguese can choose one of 3 options: - Equality of civil rights and obligations; - Granting of political rights; or - Equality of civil rights and obligations with enjoyment of political rights (covers both types); Equal rights legal protections equal rights between Brazilians residing in Portugal and Portuguese living in Brazil. A Portuguese citizen regularly residing in Brazil, who seeks the benefits of the Equality Statute, can request, for example, the first option, equality of civil rights and obligations (covering freedom of movement, right to health and education, right to property, equality before the law and others). Under the second option, Portuguese people can benefit from political rights, which involve participation in political activities, organizing parties, voting and running for public office. A third option is to acquire both civil and political rights. When there is equalization of rights, despite the benefit of equal rights and duties as Brazilians, the Portuguese citizen is still considered an immigrant residing in Brazil. Each hypothesis has different legal requirements.
