With the entry into force of law 14,534, scheduled for 2024, the CPF will be the only identification number valid for all interactions between Brazilian citizens and the Brazilian State. This number will be present in public documents, civil records and inscriptions present in federal, state and municipal databases. Requesting any public service will require CPF information. At Consulates, the inclusion of the CPF number will be mandatory for passport applications, as well as for obtaining attestations and birth, marriage and death certificates. Consulates are prepared to implement the new law, and the CPF is already being included in birth certificates. Even for those who have no plans to return to Brazil, obtaining a CPF will be mandatory. Residents abroad can request or check their registration status directly with the Federal Revenue Service, through an online process, eliminating the need to travel to the Consulate.
