Is a marriage celebrated abroad valid in Brazil | Yes, a marriage celebrated abroad by a foreign authority is valid in Brazil, that is, the person will no longer be considered single. However, for this marriage to have legal effects in Brazil, it must be registered at a Brazilian consulate or in Brazil. Also, it must be transcribed in Brazil. If they choose to carry out the procedure in Brazil, they will have 180 days to do so, counting from the date of arrival in Brazil. Registration will assurance legal effects such as those related to rights over property, succession (retirement and inheritance), alimony, change of name or surname and tax issues.
