When a foreign person is engaged to a Brazilian citizen and plans to get married in Brazil, it is not necessary to obtain a specific fiancé visa, as this category of visa does not exist in Brazil. Instead, the appropriate option would be to apply, after the marriage celebration, for a residence permit through the family reunion process, which is granted to spouses or partners of Brazilian citizens. Before the celebration of the wedding, the foreign person may travel to Brazil as a tourist, depending on their nationality, subject to tourist visa requirements as applicable to their country of origin. After marriage, she can then request a change of status from tourist to resident with the competent authorities in Brazil.
