Forced immigration is the displacement of people from their region of origin due to circumstances beyond their control, such as war, persecution, armed conflict, violence, human rights violations or natural disasters. Climate refugees are a subset of this phenomenon and refer to people who are forced to leave their homes due to extreme weather events such as hurricanes, floods, prolonged droughts or rising sea levels. These climate changes can destroy livelihoods, make habitable areas unsafe and lead to shortages of basic resources, forcing people to seek refuge elsewhere.
