The National Day to Combat Racial Discrimination, celebrated on July 3, has its origins in the Afonso Arinos Law (nº 1,390/1951), the first Brazilian code against prejudice based on race and skin color. Although this law was an important milestone, it treated racism only as a misdemeanor, a minor infraction, and not as a crime. Brazil, known for its rich racial and cultural diversity, is a country made up of immigrants from different parts of the world.
