Overview
Since April 10, 2025, tourists from the United States, Canada and Australia will need a visa to enter Brazil. The measure, initially scheduled for January 2024, was postponed for more than a year to allow for the proper implementation of the electronic visa system (e‑Visa) and avoid negative impacts on tourism during periods of high demand, such as end-of-year celebrations and Carnival. The new policy ends the unilateral exemption that has been in force since 2019 and reflects the principle of reciprocity adopted by the current administration. To obtain the e‑Visa, the applicant must demonstrate financial means compatible with the trip, including an average bank balance of at least US$2,000 in the last three months or presentation of six recent pay stubs. If the tourist does not meet this criterion, it is possible to present a sponsorship letter, signed by a third party that proves the required resources.
